Can Person with Disabilty able to workabraod even they have the qualififaction and experience meet employer requirements? I’ve 10 years of local experience as Draftsman but my hard of hearing prevent me in doing so. Can gov’t agencies like POEA can arrange it with employer who wish to employ PWD even they have long local working experience?

Hope you can reply to my query.

    @Patrick G.,

i have polio on my left foot but can walk without the aid of crutches. anyway, i’ve been working abroad (middle east) and still is for the last 12 years. cguro depending on the field you are in (ako nasa admin).

when i had my medical exams in 1997, it was clearly stated in my medical report na may polio nga ako.

anyway, kung may kakulangan (should not be the term) tayo, marami pang areas na pwede tayong mag excel. one i appreciate sa bansang kung saan ako naroon ngayon is that, in my twelve years here, wala akong nakita o narinig na pinagtatawanan o ginagaya ang lakad ko. sad to say, it’s very common dyan sa pilipinas na ginagawang katatawanan ang may kapansanan. kahit on national tv:(

    gumagalang,

  22. JOOSELITO R. BRIONES on March 3rd, 2010 10:03 am

    Madam:

    Greetings of peace!

I am Joselito R. Briones, 24years old, single. I graduated with the degree Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting at Saint Mary’s University last April 21, 2007. I am a PARTIAL hearing-impaired person, a hard of hearing (HOH) since birth my left ear was deaf and cannot hear sound but my right ear can hear sound and can understand environmental speech. I am sending a letter because I want to ask to make me a recommendation letter that to be send to the Executive Director of PHILIPPINE CHILDREN MEDICAL CENTER (PCMC) – Dr. Julius A. Lecciones for possible employment in the hospital. I am only recommended by Dr. Francis Samonte, he submitted my application and requirements to Dr. Lecciones last August 11, 2009, but the HRMD send me message that up to now were no vacancies yet and my application in the hospital were placed on active file for 1 year, once if there are approve vacancies to fill up. So, I just sending request letter for possible employment, because I need your recommendation in the hospital which Dr. Samonte helped me to referred work in a hospital. Through this, I am trying my luck to send a request letter for a referral for possible employment at PCMC as office staff and accounting – related services. I have a sound and healthy body and have a strong self- determination that is helpful in the attainment of my future. I perceive my condition a capacity rather than a disability.

I have experienced job searching discrimination on my job hunting days in other companies, I try my best looking, searching and applying a job but the result is that the employer don’t accept with defects like my condition. I am aware that to improve my chances of finding employment, being deaf job searchers, they tailor my resumes to hide the fact that I have a hearing loss / defect. There is no way I can hide it on mine. It would take some with the brains of gnats to not be able to figure it out from my resume. In addition, there have been some companies that called my mobile number (rather than to send a message), and after discovering that I cannot understand and experiencing a relay service call, they did not call again. I have lost some good jobs as a deaf job searcher because of this. There have been times when companies said – they would contact me, but they did not, I prove myself my condition, honestly that I have a hearing defect, of course I can’t be sure that all this was because of my situation, but I think some suspicion of discrimination is reasonable. Being a hard of hearing was difficult to look for a job because of a great possible risk on communication, even if I had a proven education rather than the HEARING WORLD.

Thanks to my parents that they send me at a CICM schools, which indeed all the students are good in hearing whereas for me a partial deaf. They inculcated me in the love of God. Thanks to my faith: F-A-I-T-H, faith in God, it did not drop me off. Thanks to the many people who sympathized and emphasized me. They were God sent. CICM schools guided me by spiritual, moral and intellectual as part of Christian values. They also seeks to establish an effective, excellent and relevant system of education. My parents prefer to send me to a attend a normal school rather than to attend to a SPED School because I perceive my condition that I can cope up with the normal school better in spite that I have a profound hearing loss and moderate sensorineurial loss . However, it was not a hindrance for me to pursue my studies until I succeeded. I love reading books in my field of specialization. My 14 years of schooling was a stepping stones for me to pursue my ambitions in life to go to another journey – the real world of OFFICE WORK. However, despite my condition, it was not a hindrance for me in achieving my goals. “Even if one has a disability, one should keep going, living one’s dream and achieving the heart’s desires… live your dreams & follow your heart”.

Last year, I am sending a letter in your good office of which companies that employ deaf. So that, thanks for your help that you recommend me for possible employment to work at the The Nova Foundation For Differently Abled Person, Inc . I am employed at Hops Department as a Data Encoder. I started last June, 2008 from then, I was resigned last June, 2009 due to many reason. The reason that I resigned were due to FORCE LEAVE SCHEDULE, 3-4 days a week of work, and salary is too lower than the minimum wage, I cannot yet support my daily needs when I worked in Manila. I belong to a poor family, my father was only a tenant farmer. I rented a boarding house while on working at Nova Foundation, but many expenditures to pay for, that was the reason I resigned in Nova Foundation, because I cannot support my daily needs due to monthly salary was not enough.

I applied last July 23, 2009 in the job fair for PWD at SM North Edsa SM North Annex. I attend there and submitted my resume to the participating companies – DBP, Puregold, Bioessence and CMO Manpower, but they did not contact me whether for an interview or employment exam. I want to come back to Manila to apply another job, but I think it was too hard without the help of what companies that employ deaf, assistance from your good office and recommendation for me to reffered work to a company for possible employment. I want to find work to support my family from then on, I am still jobless and working hard to look and search a companies that employed and gives opportunities for the disabled to find jobs in Manila, but unfortunately I went home jobless and sad in my hometown.

Madam, which much appreciation, for your assistance, bear wish to work despite my capability on my disability, can you help me to recommend me to work at PCMC, I don’t know if there’s a disabled employed there. I want to provide professional development and to acquire the knowledge, skills, proficiency and mental abilities to render quality accounting and accounting – related services to the business world, so that I want to work in a hospital that has something to do with accounting. Please response my request for possible employment for a referral working at PCMC which Dr. Samonte helped me. I maybe reached through my mobile number 0905 924 5274 and my e-mail address joselitobriones@yahoo.com to send me response for my assistance and request to work at PCMC which my application there were placed on active file.

For your consideration and favorable action.

Thank you for taking the time to read my request letter. I look forward to talk with you.

    Very truly yours,

    JOSELITO R. BRIONES

God bless us, my fellow pwd’s.

    Happy new day everyone!
I am Jazmin H. Balasta, a polio victim since birth(pero nakakalakad naman ako with/without saklay yun nga lang para protection na rin para hindi ako matapilok or matumba gumagamit na rin ako ng crutches), 31 years old, single.Lumaki ako sa province of Sorsogon, kaya lang napansin ko na lahat ng mga PWD dun eh hindi man lamang pinapansin ng Goverment so i decided na pumunta dito sa Manila (Taguig) to look forward my kapalaran. And I’m so lucky naman eh nakapag work din naman ako as Invoicing Clerk sa isang direct selling company through the help of NOVA Foundation.
Hehehe!
Kaya mga PWD’s, dont lose your hope always pray to God. Always trust to the Lord, He knows what is the best for us.
If ever na meron makapansin na employer jan at gusto akong bigyan ng chance here is my contact #09192883124 or 6417011.

One of our trainees, Mr. Michael Jan D. Sumalileng, a graduate of Miriam College with a Diploma on Computer Technology, represented Batch 14 to do a data entry drill during the talk of Mr. Noli Agcaoili, President of Nova Foundation, at the 3rd Annual BPO & Call Center Training Convention held at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel on February 11, 2009.

After four weeks of training with NOVA-CBM ICT TRAINING CENTER, Mr. Sumalileng has showed great improvement and has now an average typing skill of more than 12,000ksph.

The NOVA-CBM ICT Training Center has high hopes that the involvement of NOVA FOUNDATION to this event would not only make the BPO industry aware of the PWDs, like the deaf, the blind and the orthopedically impaired, but most importantly to see that they are capable of doing the job, if and only they are given the opportunity. As what Mr. Agcaoili emphasized during his talk: ‘IT CAN BE DONE: EMPOWERING THE DIFFERENTLY ABLED FOR CALL CENTER AND BPO POSTS”.

I am a physically challenged person. I am using crutches in all my undertakings.

I graduated Bachelor in Applied Statistics at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in the year 2004.

1999 when I was still in college, lahat na yata ng namumuno sa ating bansa ay sinulatan ko..from the president to barangay officials. Now nakatapos na ako ng Masteral and even in the 2nd year in the college of law pero wala na yung pangako nya sakin..

I am working in a private university as a university statistician. This is my 3rd job so far. bale 2 months after graduation, nakapagtrabaho naman ako..

Nag-apply ako ng job abroad. I was already interviewed many time by the foreign company. Maayos naman and nakatanggap na ako ng job order signed by the director. pero nung makita ako ng agency nila…biglang declined na at hindi itinuloy yung application ko……sabi mahihirapan daw sila ilabas ako ng bansa at mahigpit daw ang embassy…

Sumulat ako sa embassy ng Amerika at UAE and sabi sa akin, as long as capable at suitable yung job na inaaplayan ko bakit naman sila maghihigpit.. The job na ina-applyan ko is technical and hindi nangangailangan ng paa…bakit ako dine-deny………..Vin_zed@yahoo.com

Napanood ko po sa ABS-CBN ung news about a disabled filipino invited for a great oppurtunity in Qatar ngaung second week of October 2010. Eto po ung link

    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/global-filipino/10/08/10/deaf-mute-person-finally-leaves-qatar

    Salamat po and God bless……

    Dear Mr. David D. Gonzaga,

I appreciate you for posting and serving yourself as an inspiration to people with physical disabilities. Since you’re working as a public servant in the City of Dasmariñas, May I know if there’s any organization of Person with Disabilities established in the city. I’m asking you this because of your linkage with the local government and agencies. Like you, I am also residing in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. I am Lito Dollaga, a paraplegic who also needs to survive and earn for a living. I would like to explore if we could organize our selves to form a group or an organization that would help us PWD’s to bind together and work for a common cause. If there’s already an existing organization, then maybe we can help strengthen the organization by encouraging more PWD’s to participate and be active in uplifting our lives.

Hope we can establish an open communication to start the ball rolling.

    Thank you.

    Happy new day!
Last September 20, 2010, mayroon po akong natanggap na liham a endorsement letter for possible employment mula sa The Assistant Secretary and Head, Program Management Bureau.

    Taos Puso Pong Nagpapasalamat,
    Jazmin H. Balasta

    P L E D G E O F F A I T H

Are you a Christian? YES I AM! Then the scream of terror echoed in the entire building shout of the gunshots and deadly darkness brought dangers to many lives in the hotel.

This was the only question asked by an unidentified terrorist to Marvin Mereno, a Filipino, working as a waiter at Al-Khobar, that brought him to his tragic near death experience last May 29,2004 and eventually tested his faith and belief as a baptized Christian.

    THE START OF HIS JOURNEY

Marvin C. Mereno was raised in a traditional Filipino family. He is a second child among four siblings and educated in a Catholic institution from elementary to high school. In those years he was taught by his mother to develop a devotion to the saints, which made him active in religious organizations and appreciated religious instructions forming him to be a good person with great zeal to serve his family. That is why after college, he thought of helping them by trying his luck in Pasay City. He worked as a Linen custodian and Cook reliever in a small company, but his earning was not enough to meet the needs of his siblings. Because of this, he dreamt of working in the Middle East as an overseas Filipino worker for a better income. He then flew to Saudi Arabia on January 25,2004 with bundles of enthusiasm and dreams of fortune for his loved ones.

    LIVING IN THE ARAD WORLD

His work for a few months in the Muslim world was not really hard initially. His employers were very kind and considerate. He was able to know other religions coming from the various parts of Asia, like Buddhism, Hinduism and Taoism through his co-workers and that made him develop a good working relationship with them.

On the other hand, he found it more difficult to relate with his fellow Filipino workers because of crab mentality and the kanya-kanya attitude among them. But this challenge wasn’t enough for him to surrender in pursuing his dreams for his family. At that time, he knew that he was already fulfilling his promises because of his stable job and good income.

But the feeling of fulfillment was overpowered by fear and anxiaty when an unexpected horror cloake4d over the hotel bringing the phantom of death.

    THE STRUGGLE FOR HIS FAITH

His faith was put to test on May 29,2004 at 8:30 in the morning, when he was in the hotel preparing for the expected booked visitors. Suddenly, a bus arrived loaded with men in uniform. At first, he thought they were soldiers who would be taking breakfast. But his impression changed when these men began to shout and destroy the displays at the information area causing the customers to panic and look for possible exits.

In a moment, one of them approached him and asked if he were a Christian. At that instance, he felt to so frightened and terrified by the possible consequence of his reply. But his conscience worked immediately to appease his fear reminding him of his Christian education- to depend his faith even until death. That is why, after a series of moments he answered, “YES, I AM”, and the assassin shot him on his face ensuring his instant death.

After few seconds, he was himself bleeding and his blood flowed to the white tiled floor. He decided to lie down and wait for his fate, he closed his eyes and had a self-confession remembering all the sins he had committed. Then a flash of light appeared bringing him back to his happy days with his family, friends and other people who were left behind.

Seeing their faces full of hope and aspirations made him realize that indeed life was too short, he was not ready to die because the love he has shared with them was not enough to express his gratitude and care. Because of this, he gathered enough strength and decided to struggle and fight for his life no matter what.

At this point, he remembered the religious instructions of his teachters to seek help of the saints. He called St.Clare, St.Dominic, St.Vincent and repeatedly chanted Come Holy Spirit secretly. Knowing the possibility of dying, he continuously heard the gunshots, screams of the hostages and the threats of the rebels that made him pray unceasingly. He pretended to be dead to avoid additional shots, then he offered his fate to the one who will come to his rescue.

After the long period of waiting, he felt a white cloth covered his face. The rescue team laid him down with the other victims with the thought that nobody was alive because of the long hours of gunfire, but this vanished when he moved his hand to give a sign of his survival. For a week he was confined at the Intensive Care Unit and almost considered comatose due to the buttet found at his right cheek that affected his nose, his throat, his tongue and his right eye.

On that critical period, he had been hearing the inspiring words of his mother from the Philippines using a cell phone that kept him highly spirited in fighting for his life. His struggle lasted for several months, but it paid off when he was declared free from danger of death.

    SCARS OF HIS WITNESSING

When he was released from the hospital, his co-workers confided to him the result of that fateful day, 22 died in the shoot-out, one was beheaded and only two of them survived. After hearing this, he felt the miraculous protection that saved him during that tragic situation. He did not know how to react to that terrifying news, but there is one thing he was sure of He was never abandoned by our Lord in those dreadful hours and accompanied him as he journeyed to different faces of death and terror.

Now, he is in Tigaon, Camarines Sur living with his family and bringing the testimony of faith in times of death experiences, and the lesson of trust that eventually saved him. As he looked back to this horrible event, there is only one virtue that kept his life in the midst of extreme danger, intense terror and hopeless situation: FAITH IN GOD.

I hope that this life story inspires people specially to those who are in the Arab country. I posted this not to gave any bad comments to the Islam religion but to remind people that we should not afraid of DEATH instead we have to prepare for our Death coz it will may come in an instant….. please do message me about what you feel after reading this…. this is my number 09393535056 and 09327858367

Hello, I am Mrs. Isabelita Vasquez Guillem. I am a left eye clinically blind, what they said Retinitis Pigmentosa since 1987. I was a nursing self supporting student at that time. I lost hope, but with God help, I finished my BS in Nursing at the age of 30, passed the board exams and spent some of my time as a missionary.
Now, I was looking for a job for us to survive. I am already 48. I saw the PWD web. With my present situation, slightly losing my hearing also, I am not capable of employment. I decided to put up an income generating project. I wish to have sari-sari store and a soya milk outlet here in our place, since I know how to process. But I don’t have capital to start. Do you extend financial assistance for that purpose?
We would like also to start a vegetable production income generating project for my husband. We have already a hectare piece of land, an ancestral domain extended for us to materialize the project for the purpose of educating the lumad of our place. My husband is a BS-agriculture major in agronomy, but no eligibility. That’s why we decide to do such project. What I am doing now is tapping any people to help us pursue the project. Please help us.
Thank you very much and may God bless you as you continue in helping people.

My father most of the time cannot attend me because he needs to work for our daily subsistence. Though I can hardly walk aided with my two walkers I strive to continue my studies with the help of my friends. My classmates lift me up in crossing the National Highway going to school, others, help me financially and I able to finish a Two-year Computer Secretarial Course. I work as a volunteer employee at Postal Office in our town but recently our Post Master who is going to retire from office, advice me to look for a another job.

Ever since, I do not consider my disability as a hindrance to fulfill my dreams instead I accept it whole-heartedly and take it as a challenge. I have experience many trials but hope and trust in God make me strong. I know that He will always look upon me with love and care.

I’m prayerfully pleading those people who have the hearts to help and be my guardian angels. My father is getting old and weak and we need someone’s help to survive. Would you help and be part of our journey (my father and me) – somewhere and someone out there upon reading this SOS would come and make the remaining time of our lives wonderful.

May God in His infinite blessings, bless you abundantly.
