NCDA Joins the Country’s Grief Over Secretary Robredo’s Passing Away
Every man’s champ. One with the Filipino people’s grief over his fatal accident, the Council laments the tragic loss of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, one of the well loved champions of persons with disabilities. Not so long ago, just as he would not miss major events advocating the rights of the sector, he rooted for the PWDs active participation in the upcoming elections, shown above at the Fully Abled Nation (F.A.N.) launch at Shangri-la Makati. No doubt, this humble and noble “man of the people, with and without disabilities” , will leave with us his indelible mark as a sterling public servant. 23rd White Cane Safety Day
Director Carmen Reyes-Zubiaga of the National Council on Disability Affairs stresses in her message the importance of education of children with disabilities. She appeals for support to all leaders of organizations for persons with disabilities and asks help in our objective to block the barriers of their dreams. “I am not alone, we include you in our objective, I am here to facilitate for the sector. As Executive Director of NCDA, I will push and take care of the PWD concerns and I will strongly advocate for the sector.” This message was quoted during her special message to the Closing Ceremonies of the 23rd White Cane Safety Day celebration. A local businessman-artist birthday gifted himself as a sudden inspiration, by inviting deaf teacher-artist and 2-time International Abilympics gold medallist Jose dela Cruz, to sketch friends and show his works in his party. New NCDA Director Takes Oath
Ms. Carmen Reyes Zubiaga, a staunch advocate of persons with disabilities has recently been appointed as the new Acting Executive Director of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA). Her track record in the field of disability started way back in 1987 as the Public Relations and Fund Raising Manager of Tahanang Walang Hagdananwhich lasted for nine years. She also served as International UN Volunteer, posted as Executive Director of the National Center of Disabled Persons under the Ministry of Social Affairs in Cambodia through the United Nations Development Program. As the founding president of Women With disabilities Leap to Social and Economic Progress (WOW Leap Inc.) she managed the development of the organization through income generating projects, developing training modules for advocacy, leadership and program development.
